At Home Teeth Whitening Recipes

Can you really whiten your teeth with baking soda? If so, how?

I've been trying to find an at-home teeth whitening recipe. Does baking soda work or will it hurt my teeth?
Are there any other recipes that won't hurt my teeth?
Also, I'm 14. Should I even be whitening my teeth, or is it bad for them?
Thanks:)

The simple answer to your question is Yes - baking soda can help to whiten your teeth.

Why? Baking soda is an abrasive product so it wears away the stains on your teeth.

However, because baking soda is abrasive, it will also be abrasive to your teeth. You will notice many older people whose teeth look very worn because all they used to brush their teeth with was baking soda.

Also, at 14 years old you really shouldn't be trying to whiten your teeth anyway because your teeth are still not completely developed and they need to soak up as much fluoride as possible during this time.

If you are really concerned about the color of your teeth, you can ask your dentist about bleaching, or you can use over the counter products such as Crest Whitestrips. Also, I have heard that Crest 3D White actually works as well.

But please - do not use baking soda on your teeth, it will do more harm than good.
